OUR VISION
As
writers who experience life as a spiritual journey, the editors of
Rock & Sling have found themselves caught between a narrow religious
market, driven more by theology than literary quality, and a literary
world often dismissive of faith. Very few publications of fine literary
quality welcome writing concerned with the travail of the spirit. Our
vision is to create a hallmark of quality writing, embracing broad
differences in experience—spiritual, cultural or political. Rock &
Sling seeks to be a forum for writers and artists to forage the
vistas, abysses and near misses of spirituality. In order to bring focus
within the vast plains of spirituality, Rock & Sling limits its
content to writing that nudges up against Christian faith.
Rock
& Sling is looking for
accomplished writers; pieces will be selected first, based on literary
quality and complexity of thought and emotion, and second that it
touches Christianity in some way. Rock & Sling is not
interested in work whose goal is evangelizing. We don't want preachy
tales, retelling of Bible stories, or the usual didacticism and
platitudes. While advocating a critical mind, Rock & Sling wants
writing that brushes against Christianity, both celebratory and
questioning, historical and personal, as well as reportage. An accepted
Rock & Sling submission may not even make explicit references to
Christianity, but it will maintain a universal spiritual curiosity.
