Nicanor Parra (translated
by Justin Hart and Adam Bailey)
OUR FATHER
Our Father which art in
heaven,
full of all sorts of problems,
frowning
as if you were a common and ordinary man,
don’t think of us anymore.
We understand that you suffer
because you can’t mend things.
We know that the Devil won’t leave you in peace
deconstructing what you create.
He laughs at your deeds
but we cry with you:
don’t worry about his diabolical laughter.
Our father that art where you are
surrounded by unfaithful angels
sincerely: don’t suffer any more for us
you have to realize
that the gods are not infallible
and we forgive everything.
